2026–2027 Tax Law Advisory

Unsure how the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will impact your federal and state taxes in the upcoming 2026/2027 tax season? Whether you are planning ahead for the new filing cycle or navigating state conformity and non-conformity rules in California and nationwide, VRachelTaxPro delivers detailed, diligent oversight to help protect your financial health.

What's changing federally

The new law brings significant federal changes for the 2026–2027 filing seasons, including:

• A new deduction for tipped income

• A new deduction for overtime premium pay

• A deduction for interest on loans for U.S.-assembled vehicles

• An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older

• Higher SALT caps and changes to the Child Tax Credit

• Sunsetting credits, such as the federal EV incentives

Many of the new federal deductions are claimed on the new Schedule 1-A — and whether they help you depends on your exact situation.

The California difference

California does not conform to many of these federal provisions. Deductions claimed federally via the new Schedule 1-A — for example, tips and overtime — may remain fully taxable on your California return. Planning that only looks at the federal side can leave you with a surprise state tax bill. A proper review covers both.
